Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd April saw players from all over Scotland coming to play in the Highland Open Championships.  On Saturday, in the Inverness Leisure, in the mens doubles there were 19 pairs and the ladies competition had 12 pairs competing.

In the Mens Doubles there were some incredible matches, with a few going to 3 games and only being split by the 2 deciding points.  The final also went the full distance, with the number 1 seeds Kenneth Cheung & Finlay Sheriff beating Alan Mcmillan & Craig Robertson 13-21 21-19 21-19.

The overall winners of the Ladies Doubles were the No.1 seeds Sophie Barrie & Nivedha Srinivasan who beat No.2 seeds Emma Donald and Sophie Ford in the final 21-17 16-21 21-13.

The mixed doubles seen the top 4 seeds make the semi finals, Andrew reid & Shannon Leslie (4) took the first game of Mark & Shona MacKay 19-21 but the No.1 seeds fought back to win the next two games 21-14 21-15 to secure their place in the final.

Kenneth Cheung & Emma Donald (2) beat Finlay Sheriff & Sophie Ford (3) 21-17 21-15 to put them through to the final.  Mark and Shona MacKay retained their title of Mixed Doubles champions, winning 21-13 21-14.

Sunday was the singles competitions played in the Black Isle Leisure Centre.

20 Men and 11 Women took part in the singles competitions.

Sam Groundwater found himself in a tight battle with Liam Anderson winning 21-18 19-21 21-18 before playing another 3 games against the number 4 seed Salim Ben Boudinar, Sam won the first game 21-19 but Salim took the 2nd & 3rd games 21-19 21-13 to secure his place in the semi finals.  Andrew Reid was close to putting out the number 1 seed in his first match, winning his first game 21-13 narrowly losing the second game 22-20 before losing the 3rd game 22-11. Ganesh Ram Balaji then progressed through the competition without dropping any more games to play Mark MacKay (2) in the final, where he won 21-13 21-18.

In the ladies singles Sophie Ford (1) and Shona MacKay (2) both made their way to the final without dropping a game . After a tough game it was Sophie that came out on top in the final winning 21-15 21-17.
