Junior Inter-Area Restricted Under 15s & U18s Team Event - October 2023

Junior Inter-Area Restricted Team event took placed on Sunday at Sir Craig Reedie Badminton Centre Glasgow. Which saw Highland have a team in both under 15s and Under 18s. This being the first event for many outwith Highland. We were lucky to have the teams accompanied and coached by Andrew Durrand and Ross Groundwater, without these pair this would not have been possible.

Great experience for both teams members, they all played well and hopefully gained from the experience and have plenty to build on for future tournaments.

The under 15s were represented by Drew Murdoch, Donald Coull & Kurt Griffiths all Moray and Matthew Cook, Caithness made up the boys. The girls were Natalie MacAulay Moray and then 3 Caithness girls Ava Cook, Carla Edwards and Hallie Bremner. The team Captain was Caithness' Ava Cook.

The under 18s, was primarily made up of a mix of last years under 15s and 18s team, lead by Orkney's Jody Groundwater. The team consisted of only 3 boys Sam Groundwater Orkney, Calum Mcwhirter and Finlay Murdoch Moray, due to limited availability of boys. The other girls in the team were Chloe Mackenzie, Kirsty Henderson and Chloe Begg all Caithness.

Full results of the teams games can be seen via the link below.

Once again many thanks Andrew and Ross for accompanying the teams, also to the parents for transporting the children either to Inverness to travel on the team mini-bus or taking them direct to Glasgow.

Junior Restricted Inter Group 2022 -  U15 & U18's

The Junior Restricted Inter Group U15 & U18's competition was held in Glasgow on Sunday.

Highland U15s drew two matches 5-5 against West and Lothian, won against North East 6-4 and lost against the days champions  G&NS 1-9. In the matches where they drew the team with the least points scored against them get the points. Unfortunetly, the points for both games were awarded to the other teams. Although overall Highland came 4th, many of the games that were lost could have easily gone the other way as they went the full distance.

The U18s Highland team got off to a great start winning their first match against West 10-0, they then just missed out on a second win losing 6-4 to G&NS. They secured their second win of the day against North East 8-2 and lost their final round against Lothian 3-7.  Overall Highland U18s finished 3rd in their group.

A massive well done to all the players in both age groups, they all gave each game 100% and played with a great team spirit.

Thanks has to be given to Andrew Durrand and Ross Groundwater for taking the kids down on the minibus and helping on the day, also thanks to the parents who transported players to the venue, from all across the Highland region.

HBG would also like to thank Highland Workwear for getting the team shirts printed and delivered for this tournament, as time was against us.

Everyone at HBG would like thank Douglas Walker, Morag McCulloch and Keegan Friel for organising and running the event, it went very smoothly and the kids all enjoyed their games.
